The Jeffersontown Chamber of Commerce hosted the 16th Annual Jeffersontown High School 2012 Project Lead the Way (PLTW)/Computer Assisted Design Drafting (CADD) Cardboard Boat Regatta at Plainview Swim & Tennis Club Wednesday morning.
The long-running regatta is a school fundraiser in which Jeffersontown High School students research, design, produce CADD drawings, and construct 7-foot long by 2 to 3-foot wide and 12-inch high boats made only of cardboard and duct tape. Businesses are asked to sponsor the boats, which are raced in an Olympic-size pool.
There are two winning categories, ‘Best Looking Boat’ and ‘Fastest Boat’. Donna Hargens, Superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools, and Jeffersontown Mayor, Bill Dieruf had the task of choosing the winner for each category. This year the boat adorned with the Qk4 logo won both categories.
Every year the Jeffersontown Mayor and the Chamber Board Chairman race each other for fun (see picture below). To learn more about the annual boat regatta or how to sponsor a boat next year visit http://www.jtownchamber.com.
