Qk4, Louisville Metro, and Flynn Brothers received the APWA “Roadway Category” award for Johnsontown Road, Tuesday, December 8, 2009, during a lunch program for the 2009 APWA Snow and Road Conference . Qk4 was the design engineer for Johnsontown Road.
The existing Johnsontown Road was characterized as a narrow, heavily traveled, two-lane roadway with steep drop-offs and deep raodside ditches. The new Johnsontown Road has a three-lane curb and gutter section providing greater access to the numerous homes and churches within the project corridor and allows for greater traffic flow. In addition, the new sidewalks and bike lanes provide greater pedestrian and rider access in the area. The project also included two new storm sewer and sanitary sewer systems and two bridge deck replacements.
