Spencer Hines
“My most-used productivity hack is to do the hardest project or task first and be willing to do what others donā??t want to do.”
Spencer joins Qk4ā??s Louisville survey team as an intern. He recently finished his degree in Unmanned Aerial Systems and Operations (UAS) and is currently a full-time student at the University of Louisville to complete his Geospatial Technologies Certifications.
Spencer has been working in the UAS field for the past 8 years. He joined the Army in 2014 as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operator where he spent 5 years conducting flight operations, both domestically and internationally (Iraq). Once Spencer discharged from the army, he began as a defense contractor for a company on the West coast. He was certified on an unmanned system called the Jump 20, which was a Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) aircraft, became certified and accumulated a little over 1,000 hours. Spencer then became a flight instructor for this same unmanned system where he found a true passion in teaching others and connecting people with one of his biggest passions, aviation/flight operations.
When asked what made him want to pursue this type of career he said, ā??I kind of fell into this field. When I joined the Army neither my recruiter nor I knew what Unmanned Aerial Vehicles were. My recruiter had me watch a video on UAS, I liked it, I committed to that job, and the rest is history.
All of Spencerā??s flight operations experience has been military related, so when the opportunity became available to do what he loved in a new environment, while gaining exposure to the civil engineering world, it was a no-brainer to come to work for Qk4.
In his free time, Spencer is very active and always up for something new. That sometimes looks like trying a new sport like Pickleball or trying to learn a new skill or trade.
